A new scheme being trailed by certain low cost van insurance companies in the UK could mean cheaper low cost van insurance for all of us in the future.
The scheme that is being aimed at young drivers comprises of the insurance company fitting a speed monitoring device to your vehicle. Once fitted this device warns the driver when they are breaking the speed limit and also notifies the insurance company of the driver's misdemeanour.
The insurance company can monitor the situation and issue warnings to drivers that are persistently breaking the speed limits with the three strikes and your out rule being adopted.
This may seem like an invasion of your privacy and in some ways it is but tests carried out in other parts of the world have shown that these devices can reduce insurance claims by as much as 30% leaving the roads a safer place.
Once tests have been completed we could see this device being offered to all types of driver. Although thoughts are that people will not initially be interested in the scheme, once they learn that it could result in low cost van insurance then the insurance companies are hoping that it will change people's minds.
It is proposed that by offering this service to people at a heavy reduction in premium, up to a 50% discount on your low cost van insurance that it will make the roads a safer place.
In my opinion it is just another way the government is devising a way to keep an eye on you and maybe charge you for any small misdemeanour.
