Theft out of the back of the van can be a huge problem for the van driver. This can be a specific problem for delivery drivers as it is very easy for a thief to steal items from the back of the van while you are busy delivering a package.
The problem is that while in the middle of deliveries it can be both inconvenient and impractical to lock the cargo doors every time you leave the van. This can be down to the fact that you can't physically lock the door while holding a 20kg package or the fact that delivery drivers are under so much pressure that it can be very time consuming to keep locking the doors during your delivery run.
Failure to lock the cargo doors can also pose a problem if the thief can gain access to the cab. Once a thief has access to the cab they are the first step on the way to actually stealing your van which as we all know leads to costly van insurance claims and increased van insurance premiums. However it seems that help may be at hand.
A new lock designed by Wolf Auto Accessories Ltd could revolutionise the van world and put an end to theft from a vans cargo area. These new locks that will be marketed as slam-lock systems are designed to do exactly that lock the door when closed. The lock works by electronically locking the door when the driver closes the cargo door while in the process of deliveries. The door can then be unlocked via a fob on the key when the driver returns to the vehicle.
This new innovation has been a long time coming but in my opinion it will have every van driver cueing up to buy it when it is released later this year. The new lock could see an end to theft from the cargo area and greatly reduce the chance of van theft meaning you avoid all the hassle involved in costly van insurance claims. I just hope that the new lock will come with a warning to drivers to make sure that they have their keys safely on their person before slamming that door shut.
