Speed Camera Revenue

Speeding in the UK has long been a touchy subject with the motoring community. The problem is that all motorists know that they shouldn't speed and the majority of the motoring community try and adhere to the speed limits. The fact is that if you are caught speeding you can expect to pay a fixed speeding fine and receive penalty points leading to increased van insurance premiums. However as a van driver the fact that your livelihood depends on you being able to drive on the UK roads avoiding being caught speeding is of up-most importance.

The problem is that speed cameras are now appearing at a dramatic rate on the roads. Some would argue that they are helping to make the UK roads a safer place but new information of the revenue gained from these cameras is strengthening the argument that the majority of cameras are used to make the government money.

A recent trend to change the speed limits in conjunction with the erection of a speed camera is catching a dramatic amount of motorists out to the advantage of the government.

Recent reports have shown that a single camera situated in Sussex has been erected in an area that has just undergone a speed limit change and has caught out hundreds of motorists over the past two months. The revenue that has been generated in this time trough fixed speeding fines with the addition of penalty points has been a staggering £750,000. This equates to a total yearly revenue of over £4 million.

The fact is the government will never reduce the amount of cameras on the roads; in fact they will probably keep increasing to help generate higher revenue. In order to help keep your licence clean of penalty points and keep your van insurance down we will all have to be extra vigilant in the years to come.
