New van registrations are higher this year than in 2004 by 5.1%. This is great news for UK engineering despite the setbacks encountered by the shut down of MG rover (which many van insurance companies are refusing to insure due to spare parts issues). Engine production in this country has increased by 29% since 1999 to 3 million units in 2005. The UK is now a global leader in automotive engine research with exports worth an annual £800 million.
