Minor Bumper Accidents

New research has shown that numerous drivers over the course of their 'driving career' have many minor accidents involving bumping into other car bumpers. The majority of these drivers have adequate car insurance but many decide not to contact their insurance company because of the negative ramifications that it will have on the car insurance premium. There is a high risk that the driver's insurance premium will increase and perhaps increase substantially.

Typical steps taken after bumper accident usually include both drivers settling costs without involving the car insurance company. But this method, even though it seems sound, is very risky. The driver may miscalculate the cost of repairs; the other driver involved in the accident may contact his or her insurance company at a later date.

There was one report which involved a driver who paid over £4000 to repair his and another driver's car involved in an accident. His did this because according to his calculations, in the long term, he would have had to pay much higher in car insurance premiums.

It is always beneficial to ask the car insurance company that you are currently with, their stance on minor accidents such as the one described above. Also check to see if they include a policy which gives a 'second chance' if you are only involved in a minor accident. If your company is not up to scratch, there are always others which will have better offers and be of more help. One such company would be the insureyourmotor.co.uk.
