Insurance and Car Crime
The cost of car insurance is set to rise due to the increase in car-jackings that take place in Britain each year.
Vehicle crime in 2003-04 has increased by more than 2 million and car insurers across the UK are taking note.
To prevent and decrease these figures, the Home Office has said it will try and work closer with car manufactures to increase research into more ways of car theft prevention. Especially the new forms such as vandalism and car-jackings.
The phenomenon of car-jackings has increased because of the trend of cars now starting without keys. Now breaking into the car isn't really an option so the thieves force the drivers to exit their vehicles and in some cases tell drivers to take them to their houses where they proceed to burgle their house.
Organized gangs have been known to operate in large scale jackings. The victim is usually bumped from behind and then gets out of his vehicle to examine what has been damaged. A this point the armed jackers jump into the cars and drive off.
In many cases the stolen cars history is changed and then they are systematically put into containers and shipped abroad.
